Three fire engines were called to the fish bar, which is next to the Londis store, and remained at the scene for seven hours.

Pictures from the scene show smoke billowing from the shop while firefighters battled the blaze, which had begun to spread to the flat above.

Police and volunteers from the rapid response team were also called.

A fire service spokesman said: "Two fire engines and a height vehicle attended, and crews wearing breathing apparatus tackled the fire on both floors with hose reel jets and main jets.

"The cause of the fire is believed to be linked to oil catching alight in the fish bar kitchen."
