Fishermen's blockade hits ferry services

MANY ferry services across the Channel have been cancelled today because of industrial action taken by French fishermen over EU fishing quotas.

Kent Police have predicted the action could cause considerable delays for a large part of the day.

Blockades at the French ports of Calais, Boulogne, and Dunkirk between 8am and 1pm could cause major hold-ups at Dover.

P&O and SeaFrance have had to cancel a number of sailings and people without ferry bookings have been advised not travel to the Kent port.

A spokesman for Kent Police said both the M20 and M2 motorways were running fairly freely so far.
