Five-year prison term for drugs smuggling

A Dover engineer has been sent to prison for drugs smuggling.

Massimo Bocchi, 46, from Primrose Road, was sentenced at Canterbury Crown Court on Friday to five years imprisonment for the importation of five kilos of cocaine with an estimated street value of £245,000.

UK Border Agency officers intercepted a car driven by Bocchi at Dover’s Eastern Docks on July 31. After questioning him, the officers searched the vehicle and found the cocaine in the boot.

Georgina Myles, Revenue and Customs spokesperson said: "HM Revenue & Customs, along with the UK Border Agency, is working at the forefront of the fight to stop drugs entering the UK and to reduce the associated harm to our communities.

"We aim to protect society from this activity wherever we detect it, at the borders or inland. Anyone with information relating to smuggled goods should contact HMRC’s 24 hour hotline number on 0800 59 5000"
