Man arrested on firearms offences in Dover

A man has been arrested on suspicion of firearms offences after a grenade was found at a property in Dover.

Police and the bomb squad were called to a residence in Lascelles Road yesterday with officers still at the scene today.

One local reported seeing police enter the property yesterday, and that uniformed officers are still there.

"I have no idea what has been happening, but there are so many officers in the street," they added.

A police spokesman confirmed that a 35-year-old man was arrested yesterday on suspicion of possessing firearms, and remains in custody while inquiries continue.

A Ministry of Defence spokesman confirmed that the Army Explosive Ordnance Disposal Team were called to the address, where they found a Second World War vintage inert grenade.

"The team has responded to a further request to return today and remain on site," he added.
