ADAM KHEDHER: on his way to buy strawberries when he was struck by a car

THE mother of the 10-year-old boy who died after the road accident has spoken of her "special little angel" - his love of science, his concern for others, and his strong Muslim faith.

Adam Khedher, a pupil at Guston Primary School near Dover, died in his mother's arms at King's College Hospital in London a week after suffering serious head injuries in the accident at Guston.

He and a friend were crossing the Dover to Deal road on a blind bend near the Duke of York's School when Adam was hit by a car. is friend escaped injury, and ran back to Adam's home to raise the alarm.

Adam's mother, Amira Khedher, said she does not blame the driver of the car. "It was not the driver's fault," she said. "It was a blind spot. Adam was a sensible boy. He knew road safety.

"I think he looked right and then left, but didn't look right again, otherwise I think he would have seen the car."

The boys were on their way to buy strawberries at a nearby farm. "I had always told them not to cross that road," stressed Adam's mother. "When the other boy arrived at my house he was white and shaking. I knew something really bad had happened."

Adam was taken to the Kent and Canterbury Hospital before being transferred to King's College Hospital in London where his parents kept a vigil at his bedside. At times he was conscious and able to talk to his parents.

"I said 'I love you' and he smiled," said Mrs Khedher. But Adam had suffered very severe head injuries and he died on Monday.

Mrs Khedher was full of praise for the hospital staff, especially two nurses. They arranged for a plaster of Paris handprint to be taken from Adam, together with some of his hair for the family to keep.

"Our time is written by God and only He knows," said Mrs Khedher. "It was Adam's time. He was such a special little boy. I think he's an angel in heaven now."
