Dover man will run London Marathon to raise funds for charity Lord's Taverners

A city man with Dover roots is appealing for cash donations as he prepares to do the London Marathon in April.

Nick Moore, 26, of East Langdon Road in Guston, aims to raise £2,100 for the Lord’s Taverners, a charity that gives disabled and disadvantaged children the chance to excel in sport.

More than £400 has been pledged so far.

The former St Edmunds’ student, who went on to study sports journalism, said: “I’ve been a sportsman from a young age, and have enjoyed sporting successes performing at national level as both a pole vaulter and basketball player.

“But this is without doubt, the biggest challenge I have ever attempted.”

Nick, who manages the London branch of recruitment company Catch 22, will be running alongside a team of 40, who are also raising money for the same charity.

During the winter months he has been doing between two to three runs a week, two of which are shorter and a longer one on weekends.

“That combined with basketball training, matches and the gym means my sporting life is non-stop,” he said.

Nick hopes to complete the 26-mile race in under four hours.

He said: “My mum has been trying to convince me to enter for a few years now, and when my boss offered me a spot through the Taverners, I couldn’t say no.”

Sue Moore, 60, completed the endurance event back in 1982, and has been labelled as the ultimate inspiration behind his decision to give it a go.

His family have been behind Nick’s efforts to raise funds and were pictured at the Boxing Day Dip 2015 dressed as inflatable animals to encourage sponsorship.

“Any form of donation, however large, or small, would be greatly appreciated – it’s for a great cause,” Nick said.
