Workplace safety high on the agenda

Employers are being encouraged to be more safety conscious.

As part of European Healthy Workplaces week, beginning on Monday, Dover District Council’s environmental health team will visit employers and staff to talk about risk assessments and general health and safety.

They have already sent letters and leaflets to businesses advising them on health and safety and there are copies available at the council offices in Whitfield.

A district council spokesman said: “Employers have a legal responsibility to ensure the safety and health of workers and members of the public.

“A risk assessment is a careful and systematic examination of all aspects of the work undertaken to consider what could cause injury or harm.

“It enables effective measures to be taken to protect safety and health.”

For premises with five or more employees the risk assessment must be documented.
