Braithwaite's return lifts Whites

DANIEL BRAITHWAITE: Back from suspension

Dover Athletic v Chelmsford City

DOVER will be boosted by the return from suspension of Daniel Braithwaite for their match against Chelmsford City in the Ryman Premier Division on Saturday.

While a number of players are carrying niggling injuries, manager Clive Walker still has a full squad to choose from, other than key striker Craig Wilkins. But Wilkins is set to have an injection in his troublesome back and could make the next away game, at Leyton on February 28.

Walker said: "I’m hoping to have him in the side for the last seven or eight matches. It would be like having two players coming in as he can do a job for us up front as well as at the back."

Whites lost 5-2 against the Essex side in October, a match many regard as the club’s nadir performance-wise.

Chelmsford will have hopes of making the play-offs after a good run. But all runs must come to an end and the game is sure to draw a good crowd, eager to see whether Whites can take another step towards an unlikely escape.

Walker was understandably delighted with his side’s excellent performance in beating Harrow Borough 4-1 on Saturday, saying: "It was the best we’ve played this season - a good team performance. To be honest we could have had a couple more as we missed some good chances."

Assistant player-manager Paul Hyde echoed the upbeat assessment: "It was absolutely fabulous. It was the best performance of the season without a shadow of a doubt. All the youngsters produced a great, solid performance and did not stop battling. 4-1 flattered Harrow. The supporters were superb, and it was great to see all the directors at the game.

"It has got better and better and there is a bit of belief now. To win with the last kick of the game, as we did against Salisbury, picked up the dressing room so much.

"The older players are stressing that all we can do is keep going game by game and see where that takes us. We can’t get carried away. We’ve got to sustain this."

Clive Walker spoke to KM-fm sports editor Simon Watts ahead of the match...
