Dover assistant manager Jake Leberl claims credit for Ricky Miller's winner as Dover progress in FA Trophy.

Assistant Manager Jake Leberl claimed some of the credit for the build-up and execution of Dover's winner as they moved into the third round of the FA Trophy with a 2-1 win over in-form Southport at Crabble.

Top scorer Ricky Miller knocked in the second half winner at the near post, his 13th of the season, after Ricky Modeste had nodded on set-piece specialist Nicky Deverdics' corner, following Leberl's tactical change at half time.

Leberl, handling media duties in place of boss Chris Kinnear said: "Not too many teams don't leave players upfield for corners and Southport didn't.

"It allowed us to get one extra in the box, and it was good to get Modeste there, because he has got a great leap amongst the many important jobs he does for the side, and we just had an inkling he might get on the end of one because Southport left their near post zone empty.

He added: "I have also been moaning at Ricky Miller all season that he should score more goals in the six-yard box from corners, because is it his job to stay in there.

"You see it on TV how many goals come that way in the Football League, and I told him to stop trying to smack one in from 40-yards, and get one in off your kneecap from a yard, so I take a bit of credit for that.

"At the end of the day we got the win we were looking for, and deserved, and now look forward to the next round."

Leberl added: "We were delighted with the victory against a Southport side undefeated in

seven, so we knew it would be a tough and tight game.

"We started very well, which we haven't of late at Welling and Lincoln, then they scored with their first effort on goal, and we were starting to think it wasn't going to be our day.

"We got ourselves back in it, and I thought we thoroughly deserved.

"We were disappointed with the one he conceded - their midfield lad has got off the back of Nicky, Sean Raggett doesn't need to try and win it there, the ball was lobbed over him, and it went underneath Raffers.

"Nobody digs anyone out here - we all make mistakes, we got on with it, showed what we are with great spirit, rolled our sleeves up, and got back into the game."

Two more plusses for Dover were the return off the bench of injured pair Liam Bellamy and skipper Jamie Grimes.
