Whites sign three players from Ramsgate

Dover Athletic manager Andy Hessenthaler has completed the signing of three players from Ramsgate.

Hessenthaler, who led Whites to the Ryman 1 South title this season, has acquired centre half Olly Schulz, versatile defender Dean Hill and winger Sam Jones from the Southwood club, whom they will be playing in the Ryman Premier next season.

And Hess admitted: "I don't suppose I am flavour of the month in Ramsgate at the moment, but (ramsgate manager) Jim Ward has been in football a long time and he knows the score."

In terms of reputation, the capture of Schulz has to be regarded as Whites' 'prize' acquisition, while at the same time being the least surprising. The talented 22-year has been a target for Hessenthaler since last summer and Whites tried to sign him in mid-season but were put off by Ramsgate's transfer fee demand.

So Hess and chairman Jim Parmenter decided to wait until the end of the season, when Schulz was out of contract, and a delighted Hess said: "He is a very good signing. Ramsgate coach Steve Butler, who I know from our days together at Gillingham, reckons that Olly is one of the best centre halves outside of the Conference, and it means we have now got three outstanding young centre halves in Craig Cloke, Laurence Ball and Schulz, and Dean Hill can also play there if necessary."
