M2 crash shuts motorway between Faversham and Sittingbourne

A multi-vehicle crash shut the M2 and sparked a large emergency response last night.

Three cars are believed to have been involved in the collision on the Londonbound side between Faversham and Sittingbourne.

The road was shut between Junction 6 for the A251 and Junction 5 for the A249, with police and ambulance crews called to the scene.

Onlookers reported a large amount of debris on the carriageway, with a recovery truck arriving shortly after 10.30pm.

The motorway reopened some time later.

A spokesperson for Kent Police said: “Kent Police was called at 8.51pm on Thursday 5 October to a collision involving five vehicles on the London-bound carriageway of the M2, between junctions 6 and 5.

“Patrols, paramedics, and highways officers attended the scene where two people were treated for injuries described as minor.

“The London-bound carriageway was closed while arrangements were made to recover the vehicles.”
