Faversham Town boss Ray Turner says if his side can get into the Ryman League play-offs they could be difficult to shift

Town boss Ray Turner says he will know if Faversham are going to make the
play-offs or not by around 5pm on Saturday– despite the fact they will still have six games remaining.

Turner couldn’t hide his joy as Faversham secured one of the most remarkable wins in memory at home to Chipstead on Saturday.

Trailing 1-0 inside the last 20 minutes, Town drew level when a deep free-kick into the area from midfielder Charley Robertson evaded the keeper and ended up in the net.

Then, in stoppage-time a speculative free-kick forward from his own half by keeper Will Godmon sailed over his opposite number Anthony Kozakis and over the line to spark wild celebrations.

Turner admitted: “It was the most extraordinary finish. It was incredible that we had some of the most lovely build-up play you could wish to see in the first half but in the end we had to rely on one long kick from 40 yards and another from 60 to win it.”

The victory took Town sixth, and on Wednesday they moved up to fourth with a 2-0 win at South Park thanks to goals from Josh Stanford and Renford Tenyue.

Turner admitted: “Saturday was a huge result, even more so when I saw the other scores that day. It seems like the play-offs are back in our hands.

“Will’s goal could well turn out to be the most significant goal of our season. If we can get into fourth it means you have got two teams who have to clamber over you.”

Town visit third-bottom Walton & Hersham on Saturday and Turner added: “This is the time. I genuinely believe this is the week it’s decided.

“I know we still have big games to come but if we can get results at two away games in front of, frankly, less-than-inspiring crowds and on Saturday, then it sets us up perfectly for (eighth-placed) Hastings at home the following weekend.

“You’d think Walton and Hersham will be fighting for every point to try and stay up. Hopefully, they come at us and give us the chance to play.

“It’s been a crazy season. It seems like we’ve taken one step forward then one back.
“Hopefully this is the week we step into the play-offs and don’t step back out.”
