Faversham Town manager Sammy Moore on playing himself, their win at Littlehampton Town and upcoming Isthmian South East games at Sheppey United and East Grinstead Town

Sammy Moore admits it felt amazing to claim his first competitive victory as Faversham boss - now, it’s about building on it.

The Isthmian South East basement boys won 2-0 at Littlehampton on Tuesday in a re-arranged match as they earned just their third league victory of the season.

But ahead of two more away fixtures, Moore warned this is just the start in Town’s battle against relegation.

He said: "It was an amazing feeling when we got the three points.

“It was for the people behind-the-scenes and how hard they have worked, and the fans as well.

“It was the first away [league] win of the season. We dominated from start to finish.

“We were not happy with the Beckenham game but, on Tuesday, we dominated. We scored two good goals.

“Sometimes, you need that win to get you going.

"The performances have been there. We’ve had some indifferent performances at home but, away from home, we have been very good.

“Waking up, it feels great, getting the three points.

"All we can do is keep putting in performances.”

Goals from Kieron Campbell and Kieron McCann earned Faversham the points while former Football League midfielder Moore played himself and was on the receiving end of Jordan Layton’s tackle which earned him a red card.

Defender Frazer Shaw came off the bench. He was set to start, only to arrive late to the ground.

Moore explained: “Darren Hare, Darren Beale and Tim Dixon have been saying to me to get my boots back on. I have been working hard behind-the-scenes, going to the gym.

“I felt good on Tuesday. I came off after about 60-odd minutes, I knew we have the boys that could come on.

"Just having my experience, and demanding off everyone, helped.

“I don’t have to worry about what we’ve got on the side. It’s probably the best coaching team I have put together!

“If they do need to change it, they have the freedom to go and change it. I read the game and pass into good areas.

“The boys with me - Kieron McCann and Toby Ajala - were outstanding as well.

"It was a brilliant team performance.”

This Saturday, the Lilywhites are at promotion-chasing Sheppey before Tuesday’s trip to East Grinstead.

Moore has a points target in mind ahead of those fixtures.

“They’re two tough away games but I think people will be worried about us,” he said.

“If we get another win, and then another one, then football changes really quickly.

“Seven points from three games is what we will be looking for. I would like nine, but seven would be a really good benchmark.

“If we give ourselves a chance with 10 games to go, anything can happen.”

Moore will come up against another player-boss - his former assistant Jack Midson - when Faversham visit Holm Park. They previously ran a football Academy together.

“Mids was, obviously, my assistant at Concord, Leatherhead and Hemel,” said Moore.

“He knows what he’s doing.

“He will have them set up and well organised. But I think they will be worried about us. The 3G will suit us, we have the players you need on 3G.

“We will respect their strengths. They’re up there for a reason.

"He has been doing a good job there. But we just need to focus on ourselves.

“It’s a local derby as well. There’s going to be a big crowd there. It’s a game I’m looking forward to.”

Moore hopes midfielder Bode Anidugbe will be fit to play at Sheppey.

He said: “We didn’t have Bode on Tuesday. He got a whack to his nose.

“Fingers crossed, we will have him back. We’re looking to add in a couple of positions.

"We’re still a little bit short up top. Then, I would like to strengthen in another area as well.

“We have identified a couple of players, but we’re happy with what we’ve got. Defensively, we’re settled.

“Bailey Vose looks very comfortable as well. He takes the pressure off the boys in front of him.”

Ex-Faversham striker Jake Embery is set to be suspended for Sheppey but ex-Faversham men Connor Wilkins, Bradley Schafer, player-assistant Jono Richardson and Eddie Allsopp could face their former club.
