Folkestone and Hythe fire crews deal with two garage blazes in Thanet Gardens, Folkestone and Seaton Avenue, Hythe

Crews dealt with two blazes at garages in Folkestone and Hythe last night.

Firefighters were first called to Seaton Avenue in Hythe at 7.04pm to reports that a garage was alight at house.

Two fire engines arrived at the house within seven minutes of receiving the 999 call and found the garage already well ablaze.

Smoke was spreading to the house when they entered and quickly extinguished the blaze using a hose reel jet.

Having put out the fire, crews then used a positive pressure ventilation fan to clear the smoke and began damping down and checking for hot spots within the house.

An electrical safety engineer and gas engineer were also called to the scene.

A spokesman for UK Power Networks said: "The fire service requested our support at the scene of a fire at a property in Seaton Avenue, Hythe, last night.

"Our engineers checked the network for safety and made our equipment live up to the customer’s internal electrical equipment."

The blaze was brought under control and reduced to one fire engine at 7.30pm.

Crews were then called out again at 9.18pm to Thanet Gardens in east Folkestone to a single storey building used as a car workshop.

Two fire engines were sent and firefighters tackled the fire for 40 minutes before spending a further 30 minutes damping down.

They were stood down at around 10.30pm.
