Bank holiday traffic misery after cable explosion

An underground cable explosion caused traffic gridlock and power cuts in Gravesend town centre during the middle of a busy bank holiday.

The incident happened around 11am on Wrotham Road, next to where work is taking place on the town's new Civic Square.

Fire crews were called to deal with a cable explosion, which happened underneath the pavement.

Traffic had to be re-routed around Wrotham Road, causing tailbacks and congestion and the fire service said there had also been power cuts.
