Children's climbing frame destroyed in suspected arson attack

A suspected arson attack destroyed a children's climbing frame.

Firefighters were called to the Kingsfarm playing fields in Cedar Avenue, Gravesend, to find heavy black smoke coming from the rubber and plastic on the frame.

David Aylwin, crew manager at Thames-side Fire Station, said: "We believe someone set alight to the rubber flooring of the climbing frame and that spread to to climbing frame itself.

"The plastic coating round it burnt off as did all the rubber. It's put the climbing frame out of action."

Firefighters were called at 4.30am on Good Friday and spent about half an hour making the area safe.

No-one was at the scene when they arrived.
