Ebbsfleet United 1 Tamworth 1

Liam Enver-Marum scored Ebbsfleet’s last home goal in Blue Square Bet Premier to deny relegation-threatened Tamworth a priceless win on Tuesday night.

The visitors had gone behind to a Michael Wylde strike in front of a sparse crowd at Stonebridge Road. But Enver-Marum’s (pictured) goal ensured the Fleet left with a share of the spoils on home soil for the 11 time this season.

Ebbsfleet’s relegation was confirmed on Saturday and with the pressure off, there was a freedom to their play in the opening stages. Tom Phipp teed up Joe Howe for a shot which he drilled wide, before Nathan Elder headed a Phipp cross over the bar.

There was a lengthy stoppage midway through the first half when Fleet goalkeeper Lucas Menz sustained a head injury and had to be bandaged. When play restarted, the hosts went back on the attack and Stefan Payne thumped a half-volley past the post.

Menzlooked unconvincing when he came to gather a swirling Lee Hendrie free-kick from the left and the ball fell loose to Peter Till, but his lob was held by the back-pedalling Menz on his goal line.

Hendrie, the former Aston Villa and England midfielder, beat Menz with a rasping shot late in the half but the crossbar came to Ebbsfleet’s rescue and the ball bounced clear.

The Fleet looked bright after the restart. Payne flashed a shot across the face of goal after latching onto Elder’s flicked header and Ashley Carew then picked out Phipp, whose shot deflected behind.

Carew then curled over a corner from the left which Elder headed inches wide of the far post when he should have done better. Tamworth were unable to get a foothold in the game and Elder was afforded enough time to set himself up for a volley which he skewed wide.

Against the run of play, the Lambs struck with 19 minutes remaining. Ebbsfleet failed to deal with a cross from the left and Wylde turned the ball home from inside the six-yard box.

The home side rallied, though. Payne toe-ended a loose ball past Tamworth keeper Tony Breedon and with two Lambs defenders giving chase, substitute Liam Enver-Marum stretched to turn the ball into the empty net for the equaliser.

Tamworth could not find a winner in the time that remained and their struggle for survival will go to the final day of the season.

The Fleet visit Luton Town on Thursday before signing off their campaign against Gateshead at Middlesbrough’s Riverside Stadium on Saturday.
