Northfleet man to appear in court on suspicion of robbery in Gravesend town centre

A good samaritan who went to see if someone was well is said to have been assaulted and then forced to withdraw cash from an ATM.

The man, in his 60s, was in Berkley Crescent, Gravesend, when he stopped to check on the welfare of a person.

He was then reportedly threatened and assaulted by a man he did not know on December 13 last year.

It is alleged the suspect then went with the victim to a cash point where money was withdrawn and stolen.

An investigation was launched and last Thursday (January 4) police officers on patrol in King Street detained a suspect.

Aaron Fontaine, of The Hill, Northfleet, was later charged by detectives from North Kent CID with robbery.

The 40-year-old appeared before Medway Magistrates’ Court on Saturday (January 6) where he was conditionally bailed to a hearing at Maidstone Crown Court on February 5.
