Artists Sam Hickman and Sass Harding team up to mark New Ash Green's 50th anniversary

Two artists have combined their creative powers with those of primary school children to celebrate the 50th anniversary of New Ash Green.

If that was not enough to get visitors down to the New Ash Green Youth and Community Centre on Saturday and Sunday, Sam Hickman and Sass Harding are also inviting people to join them for bubbly and nibbles, as they unveil The Shape of New Ash Green, a commemorative artwork as part of the village’s year-long celebrations.

Sam said: “We had been looking for a project to work on together, one where I could take Sass’s photographic point of view and make the images my own through paper then display them side by side. The village turning 50 is the perfect opportunity.”

New Ash Green was conceived by architect Eric Lyons and developer SPAN as a design-led solution to modern housing needs in 1967 and the new exhibition showcases its distinctive concept and identity.

Both artists live and work in New Ash Green, Sam specialising in paper cutting and Sass in photography.
