Ebbsfleet returned empty-handed from their long trip to Grimsby on Tuesday.

Liam Enver-Marum, pictured, scored 16 minutes from time to give the Fleet hope of an unlikely point at Blundell Park, but a late Craig Disley strike sealed their fate.

The visitors went behind inside the first minute. Andy Cook sent over a cross which Bury loanee Marcus Marshall swept beyond the reach of Preston Edwards.

Seven minutes before half-time, the Mariners doubled their lead. Cook latched on to Ross Hannah’s centre and created space for himself before finding the back of the net.

Grimsby almost put the game to bed shortly after the restart when Shaun Pearson hit the woodwork and Cook failed to connect with the rebound.

However, the complexion of the game changed when Enver-Marum held off his marker and shot past Mariners keeper James McKeown.

Liam Daish threw on leading scorer Nathan Elder for the last 13 minutes but the Fleet’s hope was snuffed out in spectacular style as Disley completed a fine team move when he thumped a 25-yard strike past Edwards.

With none of the bottom clubs in Blue Square Bet Premier picking up a point, Ebbsfleet remain three points from safety ahead of Saturday’s trip to second-placed Kidderminster Harriers.
