Kent and Indian international cricket star Arshdeep Singh visits Guru Nanak Darbar Gurdwara in Gravesend

Indian international cricketer Arshdeep Singh has paid a visit to the largest Sikh temple in Europe.

The sportsman, who was recently signed by Kent County Cricket Club, was at the Guru Nanak Darbar Gurdwara in Gravesend last Wednesday (July 5).

The 24-year-old left arm swing bowler is currently playing for Kent in the County Championship.

Arshdeep said: “I am excited to play for Kent and have greatly enjoyed the experience to date.

“The visit to the Gurdwara in Gravesend was extra special to me as a proud Sikh.”

The visit, set up by local culural arts organistion, Cohesion Plus showed Arshdeep around the Gurdwara.

Artistic director of Cohesion Plus, Gurvinder Sandher said: “We are really proud of the working relationship we have developed with Kent Cricket which is providing opportunities for young people across the borough to play and enjoy the sport.

“As part of this partnership it was great to host Arshdeep in Gravesham who is a great role model and inspiration for many.

“It was amazing to see the reaction he got when people realized it was him visiting the Gurdwara.”

During his visit, Arshdeep met with local congregation members and community heads, including chairman or Gravesend and Dartford Association, Bilal Farooq and general secretary of Guru Nanak Darbar Gurdwara, Jagdev Singh Virdee.

Arshdeep added: “I was humbled by the warm welcome I received from the local community and hope that the good work that Kent are doing with the local communities continues in the future.”
