Mum from Gravesend wows judges on ITV’s The Voice UK 2023 and picks Sir Tom Jones as her mentor

A mum from Kent wowed the celebrity judges when she got the much-longed-for “four-chair turn” during the blind auditions on The Voice.

Former administrator Bianca White, from Gravesend, had the ITV show’s four judges battling to be her mentor after raising the roof with her performance of Tina Arena’s Chains.

The mum-of-two had the enviable task of picking her mentor from superstars Sir Tom Jones, Olly Murs, Will.i.Am and Anne Marie after appearing on Saturday night’s episode.

The 35-year-old is no stranger to big crowds as her full-time job is as a backing vocalist to British pop sensation Ellie Goulding.

But she said performing around America and taking to the stage in front of 90,000 people at this year’s Capital Summertime Ball in Wembley Stadium was nothing compared to standing on her own on a stage in front of the famous four red chairs.

“As you walk onto the stage it looks so huge,” she told KentOnline. “My heels were clacking on the floor and I was trying to tiptoe.”

She said the moment before any of the judges turned felt like a lifetime.

“It felt like an hour,” she said. “You are just singing for one person to turn. That’s all you want. You are just giving it your all.”

She added: “As soon as one person turned I felt like I could relax and just really throw myself into it.”

When all four judges turned around Bianca said it was beyond her wildest dreams.

“It was so exciting. I wish I could have chosen all of them to be my mentor.”

After listening to each judge explaining why she should chose them Bianca said it was always going to be Sir Tom.

“He’s the G.O.A.T of everything,” she said. “He’s got the background in the music industry for how long he has been going and still is going. He has so much knowledge. And he seemed to understand which direction I wanted to go in.”

Bianca said she had considered applying back in the days of The X Factor but never quite had the confidence.

She added: “I’ve always wanted to apply but just never had the courage. This year I decided I’d just go for it. I’ve had my children and I feel like it’s my time.”

Up until January Bianca was an administrator for a construction development company, whilst looking after son Reuben, six, and two-year-old daughter Ayvah.

But this year she quit her job and decided to pursue her dream of singing professionally.

“I definitely want to have a career as an artist myself now. No, more standing in the background.”

She has toured America with Ellie Goulding and has recently started backing vocals for rock band Spiritualized are also touring the US.

Bianca will now be called back to see if Sir Tom will pick her for one of the three coveted spots in his semi-final team.
