Liberal Democrat MP Lembit Opik paid a visit to north Kent as part of the local party's campaign against a proposed skyscraper along the Thames.

The MP for Montgomeryshire, who is currently dating one of the Cheeky Girls, visited the proposed site of the 32-storey tower block which developer Edinburgh House has put forward as part of the regeneration of the Heritage Quarter, in Gravesend.

Bruce Parmenter, Gravesham Lib Dem's proposed Parliamentary candidate, also attended the small rally and handed a letter of objection to Gravesham Borough Council, which will make a final decision on the planning application when it is submitted.

Mr Opik said: "Building this tower here would be like relocating the Post Office Tower to Meopham."
