A primary school has now recorded Covid-19 cases across each of it year groups.

Singlewell primary school in MacKenzie Way, Gravesend, remains open but has told several of its pupils and teaching staff to self-isolate over the last few weeks in line with current government guidelines.

In a letter sent to parents of two classes in year 3 on Sunday, headteacher Michelle Brown, said: "We have just been made aware of an individual in our school community who has tested positive for Covid 19 and have been advised to close the Year 3 bubble with immediate effect.

"In line with the national guidance your child must stay at home and self isolate until December 18 (14 days after contact)."

Pupils in this bubble are now learning from home and will not return to school until after the Christmas holiday on January 5.

It comes after the school sent out a similar letter to year 4 bubbles following a positive Covid-19 test and in the same week when classes across years 5 and 6 were also sent home.

Headteacher Mrs Brown said: "All schools are supporting the government 7 days a week, with its vital role in contact tracing to help in the national effort to limit the virus.

"I am incredibly grateful to staff for the time and commitment given to this over weekends and evenings.

"The school has remained open throughout and any bubbles that have had to isolate due to a confirmed case of Covid-19 have now returned or are joining us after the weekend to enjoy the end of term activities.

"There will be one remaining Bubble isolating and they have been engaging in the home learning remotely supported by staff and provided via our learning platforms.

"I would like to thank all the staff, our parents and carers and our pupils for their support and understanding this term.”

The school will remain open for all classes on their scheduled return dates.

Year 2 returned yesterday and will be joined by years 1, 5 and 6 from Monday with Year 4 attending on Wednesday December 16, as stated in previous letters.

Last month it was reported a fifth of all schools in Kent and Medway had reported coronavirus cases.

Mass testing is planned at certain secondary schools across Kent after a "rapid increase" in cases.

Some schools have issued "circuit breaker" closures or have shut their doors for the last two weeks of term to reopen next month.
