Gravesend student Tamera Foster got through to the next stage of The X Factor last night - despite forgetting her words for the third time.

The 16-year-old, who attends North West Kent College, was heavily criticised by the judges for her "car crash" performance on Saturday night's show.

The 10th anniversary edition of the talent contest turned sour when the judges put the boot into the teenager's performance of James Arthur's Impossible.

She had previously fluffed her lines in her arena audition and also in last Saturday's show.

Louis Walsh told her: "You are the person with the most potential in this competition to be a worldwide superstar. But what happened to the words?

"It's so frustrating to watch someone who can be a potential superstar messing up her words. You can't do it any more!"

Take That frontman Gary Barlow was most critical, telling Tamera: "It's hard to watch, it's really hard to watch.

"I don't know how to solve this problem. On the live shows it's excruciating watching a car crash happen."

And Sharon Osbourne urged her: "Don't get down on yourself. You tick all the right boxes, you've got it all going on. But just think - if you were lip syncing, there'd be something else coming out."

Fellow judge Nicole Scherzinger offered Tamera support by saying: "I'm proud of you tonight, because you kept going - and you fought through it.

"And you know what? You're only 16, little pumpkin pie. There's a little demon we've got in there with them lyrics, but we going to conquer that together. You get through this and nothing will be impossible."

Despite the criticism levied at Tamera, she avoided being selected for the sing-off in last night's show.

Hannah Barret, who performed I'd Rather Go Blind by Etta James, was voted out of the contest after losing to rivals Rough Copy.
