Police have launched an appeal after a crash which left a driver and passenger in hospital with serious injuries.

Both were taken to Medway Maritime Hospital after the crash on the A2 London-bound carriageway near Pepper Hill in Northfleet.

It's believed the Renault Megane hit a crash barrier at around 7pm on Saturday.

Emergency vehicles, including police, fire and ambulance, attended the accident.

Originally, all four lanes of traffic were stopped, with tailbacks to the Wrotham Road junction.

But by 8pm traffic was being allowed to slowly pass the scene of the accident along the outside lane.

Officers investigating the crash are keen to speak to the driver of what has been described as a silver hatchback-sized vehicle which may have been in the area at the time.

Witnesses or anyone with information is asked to contact PC Paul Croucher at Kent Police by calling 101 and quoting reference 20-1356.
