A lorry driver was caught on camera when he reversed into and damaged a CCTV engineer's car before driving away.

Ritchie Harman discovered a deep scratch and dent in his Volkswagen Passat on Saturday, July 27, and trawled back through footage captured by cameras at his home in Hillside Avenue, Gravesend.

He was shocked when he saw an Argos lorry reverse into his car - and was even more surprised when the driver left the scene having looked back at the damaged car and inspecting the back of his lorry.

"I noticed some damage on the bonnet of my car and was wracking my brains thinking where I'd parked, then I went through the CCTV," said Mr Harman, 59, who is an alarm and CCTV engineer.

"I couldn't believe it. He went up a 'no entry' for a start, and then he reversed into my car. If my car hadn't been there he might have knocked the wall down.

"He got out and looked over the vehicle - then he inspected the lorry, carried on with the delivery and drove off.

"You'd think he would have spotted the cameras," added Mr Harman. "There's enough of them."

He estimated the damage would cost around £1000 to be repaired, and to make matters worse he said the retailers and their insurance company had so far failed to assure him his car would be fixed.

"I phoned Argos and they said they'd get back to me within 24 hours, but they didn't," he added. "Then they rang back and gave me the number for the insurers.

"I spoke to the CEO on Monday morning, and she said she would get the insurers to call me back but they didn't.

"I don't want to get the driver sacked, I just want my car fixed."

An Argos spokesperson said: “We’re contacting Mr Harman to apologise and fully investigate this incident.”
