GRAVESEND & Northfleet club secretary Roly Edwards has called on the Kent County Football Association to give the Senior Cup a make-over with the inclusion of affiliated clubs Charlton, Millwall and Gillingham.

Mr Edwards was speaking after the Fleet's 2-0 defeat of Dover on Monday saw them progress to the semi-finals of the competition.

Manager Liam Daish made known his intention to field a strong side and the tie attracted a crowd of 362.

The Fleet enjoy a strong affinity with the Senior Cup and won it for three consecutive seasons starting in 1999.

"The cup looks magnificent in any trophy cabinet so it's strange then to see that nowadays most clubs place little merit in the competition," said Mr Edwards.

"Senior Cup matches are invariably used by clubs to play fringe and reserve team players.

"I have to say that I place responsibility for this firmly on the shoulders of the governing body. The competition is crying out for a make-over.

"Why is it that Charlton, Millwall and Gillingham, who are all affiliated to the Kent Association, are not expected to take part, as we are?

"Why can't the competition not be started earlier in the season when we would have warmer evenings for spectators?

"Why could the competition not be played in part as a pre-season tournament and why can't the final be played at one of the major stadiums in the county?"

He added: "These are questions that need answers and we need them quickly because spectators across the county are frustrated in having to pay first team admission prices to see reserve team football."

He stressed: "Come on KCFA, let's see some action."
