Ebbsfleet United sign York City defender Dave Winfield

Ebbsfleet United have made their first new signing of the summer.

Centre-half Dave Winfield has left York City to join Fleet after rejecting a new deal at Bootham Cresent.

The 28-year-old made 51 appearances in two years with the Minstermen, who will play in the National League next season after finishing bottom of League 2.

Winfield, who was born in Aldershot, played for his hometown club between 2004 and 2010 before joining Wycombe Wanderers for £25,000.

There he played alongside Stuart Lewis - Ebbsfleet's player-of-the-year last season - as Wycombe won automatic promotion to League 1.

Winfield moved on to another League 1 club, Shrewsbury Town, in 2013 but was released following their relegation to League 2 at the end of that season.

He signed a two-year contract at York in June 2014 and had a loan spell at AFC Wimbledon towards the end of the 2014/15 campaign.

Winfield's arrival at Stonebridge Road follows the departure of fellow defender Tom Bonner to Dartford.
