New Fleet boss prepares for tough away day

Carlisle v Gravesend & Northfleet

LIAM DAISH takes charge of his first match as the new Gravesend & Northfleet manager at Carlisle on Saturday.

His appointment was announced on Thursday and the new man is already looking forward to the challenge of playing against the likes of Saturday’s opponents.

He said: "I want to be involved in the big games against the top teams like Barnet and Carlisle – that’s who you want to be up against as a manager and I’m sure the players feel the same."

The game will take place at Brunton Park despite concerns over the playing surface due to recent bad weather.

Until the weekend, the pitch had been declared unfit owing to the sever floods that hit the city in January. The Cumbrians have played home games at nearby Workington and Gretna.

But Fleet secretary Roly Edwards said: "All the signs are that the match will be played at Brunton Park, which is now playable."
