Ebbsfleet United boss Dennis Kutrieb says side will get their rewards if they keep focus when struggling to break teams down

Ebbsfleet manager Dennis Kutrieb has reminded his players to play with patience.

The Fleet have enjoyed a dream start to their National League South season and beat Sevenoaks 2-0 on Saturday to advance to the FA Cup First Round where they will host FC Halifax next month.

But Kutrieb is conscious there are plenty of challenges ahead and knows the Fleet won’t always have it their own way.

“There are games where you have to [be] patient, and it’s not possible to get frustrated or distracted,” stressed the Fleet boss.

“We need to make sure we deliver the right things and the goals are the rewards we get for it.

“If the keeper makes some good saves in the first half then we won’t be ahead but we can’t always be one or two-up by half-time, there will be games where it’s 0-0 after 80 minutes and then you need to think that if you have another chance you put it in the goal to win the game.

“Opponents will always start to get fatigue and be tired, that’s normal in football, so you have to be there to score, like we did [for] the second goal against Sevenoaks last weekend.

"I like it if we score an early goal but that can’t always be the case.”

Ebbsfleet host Welling on Saturday and then entertain St Albans on Tuesday night, the start of a run of fixtures that will see them play twice a week for at least the next month.

It doesn’t pose a problem with a big squad at his disposal, but Kutrieb will be keen to share the workload.

“We will have different challenges, there will be game time for most of the boys,” he said.

“Those who are coming back from injury, we will have an in-house friendly that they can get minutes in so we know who’s ready and not ready.

“The intensity ahead will be very high, it will be a peak in our load and we need to see who is capable of delivering, where we need to be careful and who we need to rest.

“That’s how it is for us as a management team and where we need to make decisions. As I said before, I’m positive and not scared about it.”

Crowds are increasing at Stonebridge Road, as is the expectation level, with the Fleet winning 10 and drawing one of their first 11 league games.

But Kutrieb doesn’t feel any extra expectation from the increased attendances.

“I’m just pleased to have that backing,” he said. “The fans deserve to see the team fighting, winning, scoring goals and creating opportunities.

“The fans were really good against Sevenoaks, and that’s what we need.

“We need their help at our own ground as teams will come and try to take something away from us so they need to support us and they did it very well this season.

“We will have spells in games where we have to suffer, where we might be a goal down and have to come back. That’s exactly the time when we need our supporters, not starting to moan about anything, just be positive and try to push the boys.

“That’s what happened against Sevenoaks, it was easy to start to moan about something but they tried to stay positive and encourage our boys and it was really good to see because that’s exactly what the boys need.”

Ebbsfleet have won every home game so far this season, and Kutrieb wants his team to deliver at Stonebridge Road.

“It’s massive, like it is for every other club as well,” he said, of their home form. “We just need to make sure we’re able to deliver week in, week out.

“This is the last week where we’ve had the whole week to prepare and now we don’t really have any time to prepare anything as we play Saturday-Tuesday.

“We need to make sure we prepare the right way for Welling and St Albans. It’s important to win your home games, from 46 games you have 23 at home so if you could win every one of them that would make a big advantage.”
