Adrian Stroud: Man from Sittingbourne arrested on suspicion of death by dangerous driving after young motorist killed in Herne Bay crash

A man has been arrested on suspicion of causing the death by dangerous driving of a young motorist killed on the Old Thanet Way.

The 20-year-old from Sittingbourne has been questioned by police following a crash in Herne Bay which claimed the life of 23-year-old Adrian Stroud.

Motor enthusiast Adrian, from Margate, was driving a VW Golf involved in a three-car collision at the junction with Eddington Lane in the early hours of April 19.

The man arrested is thought to have been driving a Vauxhall Corsa.

Emergency crews raced to the scene at 12.30am, but Adrian was pronounced dead at the scene.

Firefighters used hydraulic cutting equipment to remove the roof of a Range Rover to free a male passenger.

He and a woman driving the car were taken to hospital for treatment.

A man and a woman in a Vauxhall Corsa were also treated by paramedics and taken to hospital.

Adrian’s death sparked an outpouring of grief across the county, with hundreds of people flocking to the scene of the crash to pay tribute.

Roadside vigils were held and lanterns released in his memory, with floral tributes still at the scene almost three weeks after his death.

The man arrested has been bailed until July 14 while investigations continue.
