A man needed 15 stitches to head wounds after being hit twice with a rolling pin by his ex-girlfriend’s brother.

Daniel Green experienced headaches, dizzyness, mood swings and apprehension when in public for sometime after the assault and was off work for three weeks.

Ashley Lennon, 22, appeared for sentence at Canterbury Crown Court having admitted wounding Mr Green intending to cause grievous bodily harm and was jailed for four years.

Mr Green had been in a relationship with Victoria Lennon which had ended but not before she had conceived then lost a child, said Denzil Pugh, prosecuting.

On March 2, last year, Mr Green was in the Herne Bay area seeing friends including Ms Lennon’s friend Lucy Tyler and there was an exchange of texts between him and Ms Lennon.

Words were exchanged between Ms Lennon and Ms Tyler and it was agreed they should meet to clear the air.

Ms Lennon contacted her brother and he in turn contacted Mr Green and left a threatening message.

Lennon, of Hatfields Mead, Morden, London, arrived at the meeting armed with a rolling pin and when an argument started, hit Mr Green twice on the head causing him to bleed profusely.

Lennon had no convictions for violence and his lawyer, Ian Foinette, said it was something out of character which arose from a unique set of circumstances.

He said Lennon’s concern was for his sister who had been in a state because of texts she’d received and the meeting was arranged.

Lennon intervened when Mr Green grabbed his sister but clearly used more force than was necessary.

A former soldier who had served in Northern Ireland and Afghanistan, Lennon was thoroughly ashamed of this incident.

“I ask the court to look at this at the lower level and make allowance for the sort of man he was until this.”
