The 51-year-old, who lived in Mickleburgh Hill, was arrested the following month.

During police interview, he initially denied any wrongdoing, claiming that on one occasion there had been a misunderstanding after he examined and touched the victim in relation to a medical complaint.

However, investigations revealed he had attacked the child on a number of occasions between 2014 and 2017, warning the youngster to keep the incidents a secret.

Appearing at Maidstone Crown Court last month, Williams pleaded guilty to two counts of sexual abuse of a child.

DC Becki Taft said: "Williams was responsible for the calculated abuse of a young and vulnerable child.

"He has no doubt caused immeasurable trauma to the victim and their family.

"Thankfully their bravery in coming forward has enabled us to provide the courts with the evidence needed to ensure justice has now been served.

"If you have been a victim of any sexual offence it is never too late to report this to police.

"We will always treat any information with the utmost confidence and sensitivity."

Williams was jailed for four and a half years and given a four-year extended licence.
