Docks bottleneck forum planned

THE road situation leading to Dover docks will be discussed at a meeting later this month. It is being organised by Cllr Nigel Collor who has been campaigning for improvements to the approaches to the port, and particularly the queues that build up regularly on the A20.

It is planned as the inaugural meeting of the Dover Action on Transport Access, and will be held in the Churchill Hotel on Friday, May 17 at 3pm. "There is great concern regarding access to the town and port, as well as wider transport issues," said Cllr Collor. "I have decided that a collective approach is required.

"This will be an opportunity for representatives from the various agencies involved to discuss situation and solutions openly with invited representatives from a wide range of local trade, business, residents groups and politicians. Currently there is no local forum where all such agencies talk directly to the community. I hope this action group will be a way forward with all involved, working together to solve the access problems of the Dover district."

Representatives from Dover District and Kent County councils, Dover Harbour Board, Kent Police and the Port of Dover Police, Highways Agency and their consultants are among those who have been invited to attend. Town Centre Management, Chamber of Commerce, Federation of Small Businesses, tourism associations, Cruise Welcome Group, ferry companies, road haulage industry, coach companies and taxi operators have also been invited, together with representatives of local residents.
