A Kent firm which supplies natural home insulation and lime mortars has been picked as one of Britain's greenest companies.

Ecomerchant, based at Goodnestone. near Faversham, was set up 10 years ago by surveyor, Joe Wild.

It was named as one of the top 40 green business leaders in the 2008 Barclays Commercial Bank Green Leaders in Business Awards.

Barclays Commercial Bank marketing director, Richard French, said: "We believe Ecomerchant is forward-thinking in the way they have found innovative solutions to doing business, which enables a new economy that is both realistic and sustainable."

Ecomerchant was set up to source eco-friendly building materials after Mr Wild spotted a gap in the market.

Turnover has quadrupled over the last three years.

The awards recognise companies who are using ground-breaking processes or new sustainable technology to help beat climate change and boost profits.

A limited edition book, spotlighting the awards will be sent to government heads and influential figures around the world.
