ONE of Tunbridge Wells' most regal landmarks, The Royal Wells Inn, has been sold to a new hotel group. The Sloan Family have been the owners since 1968 but it has now been acquired by newly formed company Hotels 109.

Peter and Alisa Ratcliffe, who are said to have many years' experience in the hotel industry will be in charge. This is the first acquisition for the company with a business plan to establish a small group of quality market town hotels in the southern counties.

The Royal Wells Inn enjoys a commanding location overlooking Tunbridge Wells Common and owes its regal title to Queen Victoria, who made frequent visits. The hotel has 18 letting bedrooms, a bar, dining room, brasserie and function facility. It was on the market with a freehold guide price of £1.75 million.
