BUSINESSES are being urged to recycle more of their unwanted materials.

A KCC six-month trial aims to get firms to make more efficient use of materials and energy and divert more waste from land-fill sites.

KCC cabinet member for environment, highways and waste, Cllr Keith Ferrin, said: "This scheme is good for businesses as it will reduce rubbish and help the environment as less materials will go to land-fill."

Companies can join the scheme by buying vouchers from KCC Waste Management and handing them in when they deliver materials to the waste recycling centre at Vauxhall Road Industrial Estate in Canterbury.

Reduced rates will be charged for recyclable materials. KCC, Kent Sustainable Business Partnership, ReMaDe Kent and Medway are supporting the project.
