Sittingbourne firm Nim's Fruit Crisps sign Tesco deal for Valentine's Day crisps

A crisp firm is launching a special limited edition range it hopes to get the pulse racing for Valentine's Day.

Nim's Fruit Crisps, based in Sittingbourne, is releasing its latest air-dried fruit crisp range from a naturally crimson colour apple.

And it hopes RedLove will prove a hit with those wanting to mark the day of love.

It has struck a deal to distribute the crisps exclusively in over 1,400 Tesco stores across the UK and says they could be used to "decorate romantic cocktails, top desserts or just to enjoy as an aperitif to dinner".

The company is also giving couples the chance to buy a gift box, containing two packs and a handwritten card inviting their loved one to ‘share with me’ or "perhaps even a proposal if the mood is right".

“I’m pretty sure this is the first ever dedicated Valentine crisp pack ever sold,” said Nimisha Raja, founder of the firm which is the only UK producer of air-dried fruit and vegetable crisps.

She added: "We wanted to create a fun, affordable gift and, given it’s leap year, maybe even use it as a unique way of proposing to your ‘crisp-loving’ Valentine.

“It’s the same great taste as our best-selling variety, just red fleshed to give that crimson appearance. The limited edition ranges are proving extremely successful for our business and this Valentine special comes just a few weeks after we sold thousands of packets of our ‘festive’ crisps.”

And further limited editions runs can be expected later this year - with Halloween plans already in place.

Nimisha Raja launched the firm after becoming increasingly disenchanted by the lack of healthy snacks on offer for parents and toddlers and decided to do something about it.

She sold her coffee shop and house and ploughed all of the money into launching the UK’s only air-dried fruit crisp brand, quickly building a state-of-the-art factory that can produce 12 million packs every year.

Her products are now sold in Tesco, Waitrose, Morrisons and across hundreds of independent retailers.
