Andy Hessenthaler is hoping the pace and movement of his Gillingham team will be too hot for Cheltenham to handle when they kick off their season on Saturday.

The Gills are looking for an immediate return to League 1 this season and, with Hessenthaler back as manager, there should be a bumper crowd at Priestfield to witness his return.

Cheltenham narrowly avoided relegation into non-league football last season and the Gills will be hot favourites to get their campaign off to a winning start.

Hessenthaler said: "We have to get out of the blocks and need to play at a real high tempo.

"We know the crowd are going to be behind us and have to scare the life out of Cheltenham.

"We’ll try to pass the ball and move it like we have done in pre-season at times and, if we do that, we’ll have a good Saturday.

"It would be nice to get up and running with a win."
