A boat covered in mirror tiles, a burning caravan that will be visible from trains and a film shown in a large container on the beach – welcome to the Whitstable Biennale.

The two-week arts festival begins on Saturday and includes seven works specially commissioned for the event as well as a satellite programme featuring more than 70 artists.

The Celeste, a glittering boat covered in thousands of mirror tiles, will moor offshore near the Horsebridge Centre to start the festival.

The sea plays a key part in the festival, with an installation called the Drowning of Tuvalu, which aims to raise awareness of climate change issues.

The Biennale continues until Sunday, July 5.
