Bike rider in crash 'improving'

POLICE have named the motorcyclist seriously injured in a crash last week on the Isle of Grain, near Rochester.

He is Barry Mayson, 47, of Ratcliffe Highway, Hoo, near Strood, who is now recovering from multiple injuries received when his machine was in collision with a Vauxhall Vectra at Grain Road on March 2.

Mr Mayson was airlifted to Maidstone Hospital but his condition is now improving and was this week moved to a general ward from intensive care.

The green Vectra was driven by a 59-year-old man from Valley View Road, Rochester.

Police are appealing for witnesses and investigating officer PC Alison Hollis said: "Although we have statements from some witnesses we believe there are others who have not yet come forward. We would like to speak to them as a matter of urgency so that we have a full picture of events."

Mr Mayson's wife asked to thank all involved in helping her husband and offered special thanks to the Kent Air Ambulance crew. Anyone with information about the accident should contact police on 01634 884252.
