Blaze...at village fire station

FIREFIGHTERS from Headcorn were faced with the task of fighting a fire at their own station last night when a blaze took hold of the roof.

Headcorn’s retained crew, and another from Maidstone, were to Headcorn Fire Station, in the High Street, at 9.55pm, after a call from a member of the public.

The crews managed to enter the building and retrieve fire-fighting equipment before tackling the blaze which, by this point, had destroyed much of the building’s roof.

Four fire engines were needed and 20 firefighters used hose reel jets to extinguish the fire.

The cause is still unknown. A spokeswoman for the Kent Fire and Rescue Service said that a full investigation would take place.
