Owners of cars abandoned in snow blizzards have been offered the chance to appeal against their tow charge.

It comes after Kent police towed away 14 cars abandoned on Blue Bell Hill earlier this month, after a night of snow.

In all, more than 200 vehicles were left by their owners on January 7.

Kent police have now written to the owners offering them a chance to appeal against the decision to remove their vehicles.

A spokesman said: "If those individuals we have written to wish to appeal, we have asked for specific details about the circumstances which led them to abandon their vehicles and what measures they put in place to recover them themselves."

"Regardless of the weather, keeping Kent's roads and road users safe remains a priority," said Kent Police.

"It was with this in mind that those 14 vehicles were removed from Blue Bell Hill."
