A TEENAGER was killed and three other people were injured when a car overturned on a main road just outside a Kent village.

The 17-year-old who died was a passenger in a purple Vauxhall Omega car travelling towards Hawkhurst. He was thrown from the vehicle in the crash which occurred on the A229 near Hawkhurst just after 1am on Sunday.

The three injured, two men and a young woman, including the driver, were taken to the Conquest Hospital in Hastings in East Sussex. One of them is in a serious condition.

Emergency crews at the scene said that no other vehicles were involved in the crash. The dead teenager is not being named until the inquest is opened.

The road was closed for five hours while emergency services and Kent Police’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit attended the scene.

Police say it is too early to say whether any charges will result from the accident. They are asking that anyone with information about the crash should contact the serious collision investigation unit on 01622 600970.
