FOUR boys have been arrested in connection with the arson attack which destroyed part of Warden Bay village hall on Sheppey on Monday evening (Nicola Bolton writes).

Two 12-year-olds, one from Eastchurch and the other from Warden Bay, were still in police custody this morning. The other two, a 12-year-old and a 13-year-old, both from Warden Bay, have been bailed pending further inquiries.

Residents were sickened by the attack on the hall which caused thousands of pounds worth of damage. It was the latest in a string of vandalism incidents at the single-storey building in Warden Bay Road.

More than 25 fire crews from Sheppey, Queenborough and Eastchurch were called to the fire just after 6pm on Monday.

They spent two hours tackling the blaze, which has destroyed the toilets, computer room and the kitchen. A height vehicle was also brought in from Medway to tackle the burning roof from above.

Firefighters battled to contain the fire to the front of the roof and managed to stop it spreading into the main part of the brick building, although this was still damaged by smoke and water.
