vehicles at Holly Hill

Motorbike riders and off-road 4x4 drivers have been warned about
causing damage to a conservation area after riders posted videos on
YouTube.

Kent Police took the action because Holly Hill Wood, near
Snodland, has been suffering from nuisance vehicles all winter.

The offenders even bragged about their dangerous exploits
by posting videos taken with cameras on their crash helmets on the
internet.

A two-day operation by Kent Police officers and woodland wardens
saw 14 warnings given to people found driving their vehicles
anti-socially on the land. If caught a second time, these vehicles
will be seized.

Six fines were also given for vehicles being driven
off-road.

One vehicle was seized as the driver had no licence and another
driver was given a £200 fine for having no insurance.

PC Tony Green, from Kent Police's motorcycle team, said: "The
actions of these individuals are just another form of mindless
vandalism.

"The potential damage to the environment caused by bikes and
cars in this area is vast, as it is a special conservation area and
also a site of special scientific interest.

"We have seen evidence of rare plants and trees being damaged
and being uprooted deliberately to access the protected areas in
vehicles.

"What compounded their actions though is that the culprits were
so blase about this that they decided to post videos of their deeds
on YouTube.

"We wanted this operation to send a strong message that
motorbikes and 4x4s in this area will not be tolerated and those
found driving here could have their vehicles seized
permanently."
