When Sarah Packham decided to propose to her boyfriend as a surprise today, she did it in style.

On the one day women across Britain are traditionally able to propose to their other halves, the 33-year-old took the leap day opportunity one step further - and invited ITV’s Daybreak cameras to film her big moment live on a garage forecourt.

The bride-to-be beat thousands of others to be picked by the show and worked with friends and family to make sure her surprise request went off without a hitch.

Her partner Danny Heaslip, 34, who works at Chapel Garage, in Ospringe Road, Faversham, was unaware as he arrived for work that cameras from the show, along with Sarah, were waiting to surprise him.

Despite the shock, Danny said yes and the couple plan to get married this summer.

The couple, who have been together for 14 years and have two sons - Ryan, six, and one-year-old Rhys - live in Poyntell Road, Staplehurst.

Sarah, who is a carer, said: "It all happened so quickly, I only had a couple of days to organise it.

"I emailed the show on the Saturday and they emailed me back on the Monday to say they would be coming.

"They chose me from thousands of others because I already have my dress and a deposit down on the venue and church.

"I was banking on him saying yes! It’s a good job he agreed or else I would have had to found someone else to marry!

Groom Danny said: "It was a complete surprise, obviously we have spoken about getting married for the last 10 years but there has always been a reason not to do it.

"My colleagues tricked me and told me they were going to be filming a show about car garages so I knew there would be cameras here.

"But I didn’t think that I would ever be on live television with this happening. It was a complete shock but I'm thrilled."
