Bus skids into ditch

Icy conditions kept police in St Margaret’s busy on Wednesday morning after a van toppled onto its side and a bus skidded and got stuck in a ditch.

Station Road was closed while the bus was recovered.

The accidents were among about 20 calls from drivers who skidded on ice.

There were a number of skids on the Alkham Valley Road between Folkestone and Dover, leading to closure of the road.

Two cars hit trees, leaving a woman shaken up but not injured.

A car skidded and spun round facing the wrong way on the A256 at Whitfield.

PC Ian Clark, Roads Policing Officer for South Kent Area urged drivers to take particular care in icy weather.

"Beware of black ice, keep your speed down and keep your distance from other vehicles.

"Use the highest gear possible to avoid wheel spin."
