Calendar boys strip off

A sports club in Deal has been bowled over by the success of its 2011 calendar - proving members were not stumped for ideas for a money-making scheme.

In the best possible taste, members of Betteshanger CW Cricket Club stripped off in Calendar Girls style for the photos, naturally keeping on their jock straps.

Copies at £5 have nearly sold out and the organisers are now selling off stocks to help raise cash for The Lord's Taverners charity.

Club chairman Clive Towe said: "The whole project has been good fun. We are already planning a calendar for 2012."

The idea was suggested by some of the club's younger players and went ahead after financial backing from advertisers was secured, as well the services of photographer Gavin Hardy.

Mr Towe, 53, added: "Nine of us, including me, took part, aged from 19 to 55, and thankfully the pictures were taken in a well-heated room!

"No one was particularly shy and everyone just had a laugh."

Copies of the Betteshanger Colliery Welfare Cricket Club 2011 calendar are on sale in the club shop at the Kent County Cricket Club at Canterbury or call Clive Towe on 07714 344 715.
